Ethiopian authorities arrested a Sudanese passenger who tried to murder an Israeli passenger flight Ethiopian Airlines road from Chad to Ethiopia – Ynet has learned. Mo Farah and Genzebe Dibaba have amassed the most votes in the middle/long distance category in the first round of voting for the 2015 IAAF World Athlete of the Year award.

Farah successfully defended his 5000m and 10,000m titles at the IAAF World Championships, Beijing 2015. The British runner also clocked a world-leading time of 7:34.66 over 3000m, a world indoor best of 8:03.40 over two miles and a European record of 59:32 in the half marathon.

Dibaba won the world 1500m title in Beijing, having broken the world record in the event one month earlier with her time of 3:50.07 in Monaco. She also set a world indoor 5000m record of 14:18.86 and took the bronze medal at that distance at the World Championships.

Last month the IAAF Family* was asked to select nine men and nine women from each of the following categories: sprints, hurdles, middle and long distance, road running, race walking, jumps, throws, combined events and multi-terrain.

The longlist will comprise the top-voted athletes in each category. The candidates from the other categories in the world athlete of the year voting will be announced over the coming days.

An international panel of 10 experts** will then select the finalists – three men and three women – the names of whom will be announced on 17 and 18 November.

From those finalists, the Council of the International Athletics Foundation (IAF) will select the male and female World Athletes of the Year.

The announcement of the winners will take place live on stage during a special ceremony in Monaco at the IAF World Athletics Gala on Saturday 28 November.

More heartache for Russia in the wake of the Egypt air disaster with news that an Antonov cargo plane with five Russian crew and seven passengers has crashed
A plane crash-landed in South Sudan shortly after taking off from the airport in the capital, a South Sudanese radio station reported.

A witness said they could see at least 40 bodies at the crash site, although a police officer and local media said there were 10 casualties. The South Sudan Tribune, a local media outlet, said two people survived, one of them a child.

The aircraft is believed to be an Antonov cargo plane with five Russian crew and seven passengers.

They added that they could see the plane as it lay across the White Nile River, where it came to rest after coming down.

The news comes just a few days after a Russian airliner came down over the Sinai desert in Egypt, killing 224 people, mostly holidaymakers.
A radio station reported the crash on Twitter, saying it happened about 800 metres from Juba airport.

A police officer near the scene, who did not give his name, said there were two survivors but could not say how many people were on board or give further details.

Planes could still be seen taking off and arriving at the airport in Juba on Wednesday as many people gathered near the crash site about one mile from the airport.

Twenty-two year old Onyinyechi Okegbulam has been murdered by her boyfriend for failing to agree to his marriage proposal after the later sponsored her through school.

Vanguard reports that Okegbulam, a native of Egbu in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State was on Saturday lured out of her family house by her estranged lover at about 7 pm before shooting her in the head at a close range.

“Some people, who were close to the scene of the crime that night, reported that as soon as the boy saw the girl approaching him, he fired at her,” a source revealed.

The report continued that immediately after shooting Okegbulam, the estranged lover attempted to smuggle her corpse into his car but had to scamper for safety when a woman raised alarm.

Explaining what transpired, another source revealed that Okegbulam’s boyfriend was responsible for her entire educational expenses before she dumped him.

According to a resident of the area: “We heard that the boy picked the bills for the girl’s education, but that the girl later abandoned the boy and opted to marry another man.

“We have even heard that the marriage has been fixed before the boyfriend struck.”

Prior to her death, Okegbulam was a final year student of Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri West Local Government Area of the state.

A source from the state police headquarters in Owerri who confirmed the incident noted that the police has commenced investigation into the matter.

“Police have started investigating the incident and the late girl’s parents are cooperating with us. Police will get to the root of the case,” the police source said.

A 53-year-old pastor who reportedly impregnated 20 members of congregation claims the Holy Spirit ordered him to have sex with them.

Nigerian police have now arrested Timothy Ngwu for abusing the young girls and women at Vineyard Ministry of the Holy Trinity.

Ngwu’s abusive behaviour was finally reported to the police by his estranged wife Veronica who grew tired of his adulterous behaviour – and reportedly impregnated her young neice.

A spokesperson for the Enugu State Police command told Naij.com he claims to be obeying the ‘spiritual’ urge to carry out the will of God, ‘irrespective of whether the woman is married or not.’

Ebere Amaraizu added: ‘When the woman is delivered of the baby, the child remains in the ministry with the mother for life.’

The pastor’s brother – who did not want to be identified – said he had warned both Ngwu and his family about the self-proclaimed clergyman’s behaviour for a long time but they refused to listen.

He claims the arrest is ‘God’s wrath falling on his brother’, adding: ‘God’s anger has befallen my brother, we have severally appealed to him to stop what he was doing but he refused.

‘He has colonised our compound, bearing children with recklessness. He accused us of being jealous of him because he is doing the will of God.’
Pointing at the church’s compound, he continued: ‘Look at these buildings here… He has converted all of them to himself in the name of vineyard.

‘He sacked his betrothed wife who has three children for him and embarked on impregnating married women and young girls. Look at the whole compound littered with children of different sex and age.’

‘All members of the vineyard are fools, how can a woman abandon her husband for another man in the name of worshiping God and practice adultery? I cannot get myself involved in this matter.

‘Let them sort themselves out with the police but I want the ministry to be shut down completely,’ he added.’

Intelligence suggests the Russian plane that crashed in Egypt killing all 224 people on board may have been brought down by a bomb, US and UK officials say.
But they say they have yet to reach a formal conclusion.
Britain earlier suspended flights to and from the resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, from where the flight had departed.
Egypt has dismissed claims by militants linked to Islamic State (IS) that they brought down the plane.
Russian experts say it is too early to say.
Separately on Wednesday, Egyptian officials said the cockpit voice recorder of the Metrojet Airbus 321 was badly damaged in the crash.
However, they managed to extract information from the flight data recorder which is ready to be analysed by investigators, Egypt’s Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Hossam Kamal said.
The plane, bound for St Petersburg, crashed in Egypt’s Sinai desert just 23 minutes after take-off from Sharm el-Sheikh on Saturday.
Most of those on board the plane, which was operated by Russian airline Kogalymavia, were Russian.
UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said the government had looked at all the information available, including the claim by IS, and concluded that there was a “significant possibility” the plane had been brought down.
Mr Hammond said there would be no British flights out of Sharm el-Sheikh on Thursday, but airlines expected to start flying home some of the thousands of Britons currently at the resort on Friday.
“We’re spending today with the airlines, with the Egyptian authorities, putting in place short-term emergency measures that will allow us to screen everything going onto those planes, double-check those planes, so that we can be confident that they can fly back safely to the UK,” he told the BBC.
The move to suspend flights came during a visit to Britain by Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi and Mr Hammond has stressed that the decision was made “very reluctantly”, adding: “We have to put the safety and security of British nationals above all other considerations.”

Eliud Kipchoge and Mare Dibaba have earned the most votes in the road running category in the first round of voting for the 2015 IAAF World Athlete of the Year award.

Kipchoge won the London Marathon earlier this year in a world-leading 2:04:42. The Kenyan then bettered that world-leading mark when winning the Berlin Marathon in September in 2:04:00.

Dibaba started her year with a 2:19:52 victory at the Xiamen Marathon. After finishing second at the Boston Marathon, the Ethiopian went on to win the marathon title at the IAAF World Championships, Beijing 2015.

Romanian prime minister Victor Ponta quit on Wednesday in a surprise move that will probably produce a new cabinet led by a technocrat, after street protesters demanded resignations over a deadly fire in a Bucharest nightclub.
Mr Ponta is facing trial for corruption and he was already under pressure to quit from the opposition and president Klaus Iohannis, who defeated him in last November’s presidential election.
Mr Iohannis will consult political parties separately over the new premier, starting Thursday, and a possible nomination might emerge in the next days, he said.
“Last night, Romanians’ outrage became true revolt,” Mr Iohannis said, referring to the more than 20,000 people who took to the streets in the capital on Tuesday, as well as protests elsewhere. “We can’t believe that just a government change will solve Romania’s problems. There is more to be done.”
An estimated 15,000 people marched in Bucharest on Wednesday evening, and thousands more poured onto the streets of cities across Romania, saying the government’s resignation should be just the beginning of reforming a political class and public administration widely seen as corrupt.
Mr Ponta’s departure might lead to a political realignment, although the coalition of three mainly leftist parties that form a majority in parliament showed no signs of a split. A national
election is due in December 2016.
After an emergency coalition meeting, their leader, Liviu Dragnea, said the priority was “to preserve stability” of the country. The next prime minister may not come from the party’s ranks, Mr Dragnea said.

A fire at a rock concert in Colectiv nightclub on Friday that killed 32 people and injured nearly 200 has angered people and made them distrustful of public administration oversight, setting off the nationwide protests.
“I can carry any political battles, but I can’t fight with the people,” Mr Ponta told reporters.
In Wednesday’s protests, demonstrators carried banners that said “Corruption Kills”.

Samson Haile, 32, was found guilty for sexually assaulting his 26-year-old passenger before she managed to escape

An Uber driver who sexually assaulted a young woman in his cab has been jailed for eight months.

Samson Haile, 32, engaged his 26-year-old passenger in a sexual conversation as soon as she climbed into the car.

He then stated he wanted to have sex with the woman, who told him she wanted to escape the vehicle.

He continued to drive and began to touch her, before she managed to escape and report the incident to police.

Jurors at Isleworth Crown Court were told later that night he picked up a female off-duty police officer, and he also spoke to her in a sexual way and invited her to have sex.
The officer filed an information report the following day concerning his behaviour and it was linked to the report of sexual assault, leading to Haile being identified and arrested.

Haile, of Lionel Road North, Brentford, was found guilty of sexual assault on September 3 and sentenced on Wednesday.

He was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order, which will prohibit him from working as a private hire driver or applying to be a private hire driver in England or Wales.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Carly Driscoll, of the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command, said: “Of particular concern was the rapid escalation in the behaviour of Samson Haile.

“He went from talking about sex to actually touching a lone, vulnerable female in a very short space of time.

“I would like to praise the victim for having the confidence and courage to report her ordeal to police.

“I hope today’s sentencing gives her a degree of closure and also displays the professionalism and commitment of officers within the Met to investigate allegations of sexual crime.”
An Uber spokesperson said: “This was a terrible incident and we welcome today’s conviction. As soon as we heard what happened the driver was immediately stopped from using our service and we worked closely with the Metropolitan Police to ensure he was brought to justice.

“The individual had recently passed the same enhanced criminal record checks that all private hire and taxi drivers in London go through as part of Transport for London’s licensing process.”
