South Sudanese students who were on a government sponsored program last Friday arrived home after graduating from the University of Hawasa in Ethiopia.
Last Friday after a two-year bachelors program, the students who went as teacher students from Eastern Equatoria State to Hawasa University in Ethiopian returned in the accompany of Education Ministry’s officials led by Minister, Hon. Paska Hifita Oduho.
Addressing them a few moments upon arrival at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Torit, the Minister welcomed the graduates home.
According to Eastern Equatoria State Students’ Union Deputy Chairperson, Mr. Gasiano Logwe Peter, the team successfully graduated on the 4th of July 2015.
He said they were then supposed to have left Ethiopia on the 7th of July, but could not because there were some delays from the part of government.
The total number of students who were offered the scholarship were 50 but only 45 graduated.
The EES Education Director for General Education, Luka Aribok Merte said that prior to the students departure to Ethiopia following the scholarship offered, one student officially turned down the , and two failed to perform well leaving them to drop out during the course period.
He further revealed that one of the program’s beneficiaries fought a Tutor and resulted to his dismissal out of the University while another one fell sick and did not proceed with studies.
On Tuesday, last week, the State Education Minister, Hon. Hifita in an interview with Gurtong, attributed the delay of transporting the new graduates back to South Sudan to lack of hard currency in the country.
