Lufthansa passengers face chaos as airline cancels 929 flights
Berlin (dpa) – Passengers with German air carrier Lufthansa face another day of chaos Monday after the airline moved to cancel 929 flights as it tries to operate amid a strike by flight attendants.
About 113,000 passengers are likely to be affected by the industrial action, which forms part of campaign by the flight attendants’ union, Ufo, to head off Lufthansa moves to restructure retirement benefits.
The airline’s management is meeting on Monday to consider what steps it can take in the dispute with its 19,000 cabin crew members. Options include a new offer to the union.
Dusseldorf, Munich and Frankfurt – Germany’s main airport hub – are the focus of Monday’s strikes, with the cabin crew having walked off the job at different airports since they launched their industrial action on Friday.
Salary negotiations with the flight stewards’ union have been under way for about two years.
Lufthansa wants to lower retirement benefits for future staff while linking benefits to market returns on investment and restrict the practice of taking early retirement at 55.
The union insists on retaining the existing system of retirement benefits.
Lufthansa has been hit this year by a series of strikes – first by pilots and now Ufo – as it attempts to cut costs in the face of tough competition from budget carriers and new carriers from the Middle East.

“የፓትርያርኩን የተጓደሉ የመኖርያ ቤት ዕቃዎች ለማሟላት እና ለመተካት” በሚል ከሀገረ ስብከቱ ተቀማጭ ብር 586‚000 ወጪ የተደረገ ሲኾን ግዥው አስቀድሞ ያልታቀደና በጀትም የተያዘለት እንዳልነበር ታውቋል፡፡
ባለፈው ሳምንት ማክሰኞ በተደረገው የሀገረ ስብከቱ የአስተዳደር ጉባኤ ስብሰባ፣ አዲስ አበባ የፓትርያርኩ ልዩ ሀገረ ስብከት መኾኑን በመጥቀስና “ሥራ አስኪያጃችንን ስላስቀጠሉልን ሰርፕራይዝ እናድርጋቸው” በሚል ግፊት አስቀድሞ ተሰብስቧል በተባለው ፕሮፎርማ መሠረት ግዥው በተጠቀሰው ወጪ እንዲካሔድ መወሰኑ ተመልክቷል፡፡
እንደ ቃለ ዐዋዲው ድንጋጌ፣ እንዲህ ባሉ ግምታቸው ከፍተኛ በኾኑ ወጭዎች የፈራሚው ሊቀ ጳጳሱ አልያም የፓትርያርኩ ፈቃድና መመሪያ ቢያስፈልግም ግዥው በዋናነት በሥራ አስኪያጁ አመንጪነትና በአድርባይ ሓላፊዎች ግፊት በታቀደ “ሰርፕራይዝ” በመከናወኑ፣ የሀገረ ስብከቱ ተቀማጭ ሒሳብ ያለበላይ ተቆጣጣሪ በየማነ ዘመንፈስ ቅዱስ አማሳኝ እና ዓምባገነናዊ አካሔድ እየባከነ ለመኾኑ አረጋግጧል፡፡
“አዲስ አበባ የፓትርያርኩ ልዩ ሀገረ ስብከት ስለኾነ” የሚለው የሕገ ቤተ ክርስቲያኑ ድንጋጌ በአስተዳደር ጉባኤው ስብሰባ ተነሥቶ ውሳኔውን ሕጋዊ ለማስመሰል ቢጠቀስም ክፋቱ “የየማነ ዘመንፈስ ቅዱስ የሥልጣን ማራዘሚያ መርፌ መኾኑ ነው፤” ያሉ የመረጃው ምንጮች፣ የቅዱስነታቸውን መኖርያ ጨምሮ ጽርሐ መንበረ ፓትርያርኩን በባለቤትነት የማስተዳደር ሓላፊነት ያለው የጠቅላይ ቤተ ክህነቱ ጽ/ቤት እንደኾነና በጉዳዩ እንዳልተማከረ፣ የሚያውቀውም ነገር እንደሌለ ተናግረዋል፡፡
“የፓትርያርኩን መኖርያ ቤት ማሟላት የቤተ ክህነቱ ድርሻ ነው” በሚል ለተነሣው ሐሳብም “ከእዚያ ጋር መነካካት አያስፈልግም፤ የራሱ ጉዳይ” የሚሉ በእብሪት የተሞሉ ምላሾች ከአድርባዮቹ ሓላፊዎች መሰጠታቸው ታውቋል፡፡
ግዥውን እንዲያከናውን በተቋቋመው ሦስት የሀገረ ስብከቱ ሓላፊዎች ባሉበት ኮሚቴ፣ ለየማነ ዘመንፈስ ቅዱስ ቅርበት እንዳላቸው የሚነገርላቸው የፓትርያርኩ ረዳት የኾኑት መነኮስ እንዲጨመሩ መደረጋቸው፣ ‘ሰርፕራይዝ ነው’ የተባለውን ምስጋና አወሳስቦታል፡፡
ብፁዕ ወቅዱስ ፓትርያርኩ ከጥቅምት 25 ቀን ጀምሮ ወደ ምሥራቃዊ ትግራይ ሀገረ ስብከት መጓዛቸውን ተከትሎ፣ “ከዓዲ ግራት መልስ ሳያውቁ ቤታቸው ተቀይሮ ማግኘት አለባቸው” በሚል ከኢትዮ ሴራሚክስ፣ ከግሎሪየስ፣ ከአዲስ ዲኮር፣ ከዋሪት፣ ከዋው፣ ከዴሉክስ ፈርኒቸርስ በርካታ የግል መገልገያ ዕቃዎች ተሸምተው በጨረታ ያሸነፈ ነው በተባለው ድርጅት እንዲገጠሙ ተደርጓል፡፡
በተከናወነው ግዥ÷ የሳሎን፣ የመኝታ እና የመታጠቢያ ቤት እንዲኹም የመመገቢያ አዳራሽ ዕቃዎች የተካተቱ ሲኾን ከእነርሱም መጋረጃ እና የወለል ምንጣፎች፤ ወንበሮች እና ጠረጴዛዎች፤ አልጋ እና ፍራሽ፤ ጃኩዚ እና ቴሌቭዥኖች እንደሚገኙበት ተገልጧል፡፡
የፓትርያርኩ የመኖርያ ቤት መገልገያዎች፣ ከአያያዝ ጉድለት ይኹን ከጊዜ ብዛት “አርጅተዋል፤ ቆሽሸዋል፤ በልዘዋል፤ ተነቃቅለዋል” ቢባል እንኳ በሕገ ቤተ ክርስቲያኑ መሠረት፣ የሀገረ ስብከቱ ጽ/ቤት ለጠቅላይ ቤተ ክህነቱ ጽ/ቤት ተጠሪ እንደ መኾኑ መጠን የገንዘብ እንቅስቃሴውን ማወቅና በጉዳዩም መማከር ነበረበት፡፡
ባለመደረጉ፣ የየማነ ዘመንፈስ ቅዱስ ያልታቀደና ያልተፈቀደ የሥልጣን ማራዘሚያ ‘ሰርፕራይዝ’፣ በአወዛጋቢ የሥራ አስኪያጅነት ምደባው ሳቢያ ካለፈው ዓመት የካቲት ወዲኽ ከጠቅላይ ጽ/ቤቱ ጋር ተቃውሶ የቆየውን መዋቅራዊ ግንኙነት የበለጠ እንደሚያባብሰው ተጠቁሟል፡፡

ከአወዛጋቢ ምደባውና ከሙስና ወንጀሉ ጋር በተያያዘ፣ በጥቅምቱ የቅዱስ ሲኖዶስ ምልዓተ ጉባኤ ወቅት የተፈጠረበትየተጠያቂነትና የመወገድ ስጋት አልፎኛል በሚል በቀጣይ የበርካታ አድባራት አለቆችን በማዘዋወር ወንጀሉን ለመሸፈንና ምዝበራውን ለመቀጠል ለቋመጠው የማነ ዘመንፈስ ቅዱስ፤
የፓትርያርኩ የብር 586‚000 የሥልጣን ማራዘሚያ እና የምስጋና ሰርፕራይዝ ወጪ ላያስደነቅ ይችል ይኾናል፤ ሀገረ ስብከቱ ግን በፕሮቴስታንታዊ ተሐድሶ አቀንቃኝ ብሎጎች ጭምር በሚታገዘው የየማነ ዘመንፈስ ቅዱስ ከተግባር የራቀ የለውጥ አራማጅነትና መሪነት ዲስኩሩ ሽፋን፤ እንዲኹም ሕግና ደንብ በማይገዛው አማሳኝና ዓምባገነናዊ አካሔዱ በቀጣይ ብክነት እንዳለ ተረጋግጧል!!

Jordanian police officer kills two Americans, South African
(CNN)A Jordanian police officer who had been fired killed two American contractors and a South African contractor at a training facility on Monday, Jordan’s official Petra news agency reported.
Two other Americans and four Jordanians were wounded in the incident at the King Abdullah Special Operations Training Center near the capital, Amman, according to reports.
Jordanian security forces killed the shooter, the Prime Minister’s office said.
The police officer had recently been fired, the U.S. official told CNN’s Jim Sciutto, but it was unclear if that was the reason for the shooting.
No members of the U.S. military, who cycle through the training center, were involved in the shooting, the U.S. official said.
The U.S. Embassy in Jordan said it was aware of the incident.
“We are in contact with the appropriate Jordanian authorities, who have offered their full support,” an embassy spokesman told CNN. “We will report more information when available and appropriate.”
The incident came on the 10th anniversary of coordinated bombings at three Jordanian hotels which left about 60 people dead.

Marton Fulop: Former Sunderland keeper dies, aged 32
Ex-Sunderland and Ipswich goalkeeper Marton Fulop has died at the age of 32.
The former Hungary international had a tumour removed from his arm in 2013 but was cleared to continue his career.
He played 47 times for the Black Cats between 2006 and 2010 and last appeared for Town in 2011, making 38 appearances for the Suffolk club in all.
“It’s desperately sad when we lose a Sunderland family member but to lose one so young in such circumstances is heart-breaking,” the Black Cats said.
Fulop also played for Tottenham and West Brom and had loan spells at Chesterfield, Coventry, Leicester, Stoke and Manchester City.
Several other teams have paid tribute, including his former club Ipswich Town, who tweeted: “Our thoughts are with Marton’s friends and family at this immensely difficult time. He was aged just 32.”
Paul Jewell, his former manager at Portman Road, told the Town club website: “I worked with him for a short time at Ipswich and he was a great pro.
“He was a gentle giant and a very respectful person. He was just a good bloke and he was liked by all his team-mates. It’s tragic news and my condolences go out to his family and friends.”
West Brom keeper Ben Foster, who trained alongside Fulop when the Hungarian was at the club between 2011 and 2012, tweeted: “Rest in Peace Marton Fulop, one of the good guys and taken way too early. Thoughts and love go to the Fulop family.”
Former Sunderland defender Danny Higginbotham tweeted: “So sad to hear the news of Marton Fulop. Spent a lot of time with him at Sunderland – one of the good guys. Thoughts with his family.”
Fulop spent three year at Spurs between 2004 and 2007, although he never played a first-team game. Former Spurs team-mate Ledley King fondly remembered his friend, tweeting that he was “shocked and saddened by the news”.

The Argentina-Brazil World Cup qualifier was postponed less than an hour before kick off on Thursday due to heavy rain that left the pitch waterlogged and fans in traffic unable to reach the ground.
The match will now take place at the same Monumental stadium in Buenos Aires on Friday at 9pm local time.
‘We met with match officials and the Argentine representatives and there’s no way the game can go on,’ Gilmar Rinaldi, assistant Brazil coach told reporters at the stadium.
‘It wouldn’t just be hard to play good football, there is hail and lightning and the forecast is that it will get worse.
‘The players could be at risk and the referee decided to postpone the game,’ Rinaldi added.
‘We agreed that it will be played at the same time tomorrow.’
The match was one of the most eagerly anticipated encounters in Thursday’s third round of South American qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup.
Both sides have struggled so far in their quest to reach Russia in 2018 with Argentina failing to find the net in their opening two matches and Brazil losing one, against Chile, and winning one, against traditional whipping boys Venezuela.
Five-time world champions Brazil are fifth in the 10-team table, while Argentina are eighth.
Four teams qualify automatically for World Cup, while the fifth goes into a playoff.
Argentina will be without their three main strikers for Friday’s match, with Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez all injured.
Brazil will be at full strength and are welcoming back talisman Neymar after a four-match suspension.

Germany squad return to Paris hotel after bomb threat evacuation
The Germany football team returned to their hotel in western Paris after being evacuated following a bomb threat on Friday morning.
The Hotel Molitor said an anonymous caller phoned in the threat at 9.50am local time and that members of Germany’s squad, who face France later on Friday, and all other guests were immediately evacuated.
Police with sniffer dogs went on site to check for potential explosives and a security perimeter was established around the hotel. While the police carried out their searches, Germany’s players spent a few hours up the road at Roland Garros, home of the French Open tennis tournament.
The Germany forward Lukas Podolski posted a photo on his Twitter account of himself standing on court alongside the Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger and two other Germany team members.
“Die Mannschaft came for a little visit in Roland Garros this morning. No cleats on the clay guys!” Roland Garros tweeted on its official feed.
At about 2pm the team bus drove out of the tennis complex and made it back to the nearby hotel after police cordons had been removed and the road reopened.
The world champions face France at the Stade de France in a repeat of the 2014 World Cup quarter-final. Germany won that encounter in Rio de Janeiro 1-0 thanks to a goal from Mats Hummels.

Ethiopian plane hijacker deemed mentally unsound
A psychiatric evaluation has revealed that the co-pilot who hijacked an Ethiopian Airlines flight and re-routed it to Geneva in 2014 was not of sound mind when he did so. As a result, the Swiss Attorney General will drop all charges against him.
Although the man planned the hijacking beforehand, he was not competent to judge the situation at the time and experienced paranoia, according to the Attorney General’s office.
The co-pilot will stand trial before the Federal Criminal Court, which will decide on the therapeutic measures to be prescribed to him. For now, he remains in a closed psychiatric ward.In February 2014, the 31-year-old Ethiopian hijacked a flight from Addis Ababa to Rome, rerouting it to Geneva with 202 people on board. He took control of the plane while the pilot was using the restroom.
After landing in Geneva, the co-pilot exited through the cockpit window and turned himself over to authorities. He then asked for political asylum in Switzerland as he felt threatened in his homeland.
In March, an Ethiopian court sentenced him to 19 years and six months in prison for hijacking. The Swiss authorities decided not to extradite him to Ethiopia in order to try him in Switzerland.
