Ethiopia’s Almaz Ayana lived to her expectation when she won her first half marathon debut at the 13thedition of the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon that was held on Sunday (19) in New Delhi, India.
The Olympic and World 10,000m champion translated her front-running style on the track to the course through central Delhi when she cut the tape in 1:07.11.
The Ethiopian, who celebrated her 27th birthday two days ago, said her sound preparation made up for her inexperience in the half marathon. “I came here to run well. There were no major championships this season and so I could prepare well, sai Ayana. Ayama said after finishing at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Ayana led a 1-2-2 Ethiopian podium finish when Ababel Yeshaneh took second with nine seconds later and Netsanet Gudefa closing the podium finish in 1:07.25
Kenyans Helah Kiprop,Paskalia Chepkorir and Veronicah Nyaruai finished in fourth, sixth and seventh in 1:03.09,1:03.47 and 1:09.03 respectively.
