Women’s 3000m Steeplachase Oslo Diamond League 2017

The race produced a dramatic final spectacle as Kenya’s Norah Jeruto, who had led through the bell only to be overtaken in the back straight by Ethiopia’s London 2012 silver medallist Sofia Assefa, kept grimly in touch, before finding enough energy in the final 10 metres to virtually claw her way back into the lead, winning in 9:17.27.

Assefa was second in 9:17.34, with Switzerland’s Fabienne Schlumpf third in a national record of 9:21.65. Albania’s Luiza Gega also set a national record, 9:26.05, in taking fifth place.
