President Isaias Afwerki said Eritrea lost 18 soldiers on Sunday June 12, 2016 TPLF border attack after he laid a wreath at the Martyrs Cemetery in Asmara this morning in honour and remembrance of the heroic Martyrs.
At 11:00 GMT, 1:00p.m. local time, all Eritreans in the country and abroad have observed a minute silence in remembrance of the Martyrs.
Martyrs’ Day was established to honor the memory of about 65,000 freedom fighters and 90,000 civilians killed during the Eritrean War of Independence and after.
Meanwhile, In an interview with VOA’s Horn of Africa Service, Ethiopia’s Communications Minister Getachew Reda said TPLF has no interest in disclosing its assessment of damages during the Tsorona battle on Sunday and Monday.
He also said the figures of 200 death and 300 wounded are “inaccurate” but stopped short of denying them.
